The Department of Pharmaceuticals’ much-awaited project of establishing an SME Centre at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER), Mohali is set to turn into reality. The Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Ramvilas Paswan will inaugurate the SME Centre on February 11, 2009. The SME Centre at Mohali is being set up to provide comprehensive information and support to small and medium pharma enterprises in the city.
The soon-to-be-inaugurated centre will give assistance to small and mid-sized pharma units in formulating stability study, drug master files and in resolving issues concerning formulations, manpower and manufacturing training. A Good Manufacturing Practice or GMP-compliant pilot sample unit is also being planned at the SME Centre NIPER, Mohali at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore.
The SME centre will benefit several small scale pharma units that can avail the wide range of facilities to enhance their productivity and adopt innovative manufacturing practices. The charges for the various services and facilities at NIPER will be within affordable limits as the government has directed the institute to extend concession in fees to the SME units.
