You go to the doctor to receiver a vaccination, roll up your sleeve and get your shot. So now you are protected from the disease but you my be wondering how the vaccination actually works. Did it kill some germs that were in your body or is it some type of medicine that stays in your body to protect you.

A Surprising Fact

Actually it is neither of those and you may be surprised to learn how vaccinations actually do work. In order for a vaccination to work it must contain some of the virus that it is protection you from in a weakened or dead state.

Tricking the Immune System

The reason is simple and that is that a vaccination will trick your immune system into reacting as if you have already gotten the disease. Your immune system will then produce antibodies that will remain in your system, sometimes for life to fight off the disease should you come into contact with it.

Are You Safe

For decades, more and more countries have had ready access to vaccines and the result is that catastrophic plagues have been almost nonexistent in the world. For instance, whooping cough, which once killed many children in the US is now virtually unheard of.

Is Your Child Safe

So does this means that you no longer have to get your children vaccinated for whooping cough or any other similar deadly communicable diseases? The fact, is that a false sense of security has led many parents to think that they are safe.

All It Takes is One

The viruses that causes this and many other deadly communicable diseases are still alive and in fact people in remote areas of the planet still get these diseases. If even one child should come to school with a disease such as whooping cough any children that are not vaccinated against it are at risk of contracting it.
