Correct ski clothing is the first and last word in a happy skiing experience. Regardless of your expertise, if you’re soggy, cold or gagging, you can have no hopes of enjoying yourself. So, does that mean you have to splurge on fancy ski clothes to get maximum skiing pleasure? Well, read on.

Ski clothes need to fulfill two essential duties:
* They need to keep you warm and dry
* They need to keep you comfortable

In cold weather, you tend to lose heat from the extremities. So, it is important to keep your hands, feet and head warm. You can ensure that you are warm and dry by buying a good pair of gloves or mittens and by choosing ski hats that keep the wind out of your ears. A hat or headband or even ski jackets with hood are essential to keep your body from losing heat through the head. Leather gloves or gloves with leather seams do a good job of keeping the moisture out. Mittens do a good job too but they may hinder your grip a little.

Footwear also plays an important part in keeping you warm and dry. If your feet are cold, you will develop painful blisters. Choose thick socks that stretch comfortably so there are no uncomfortable lumps in your shoes.

When you go skiing, your clothing must consist of three layers. Your inner thermal wear should be breathable. That means it should keep your body warm while allowing you to release moisture. A lightweight clothing in between will insulate you and the outer layer will be waterproof though breathable. For the outer layer, you may buy ski jackets or salopettes. Ski jackets are a good idea. This is basically because ski jackets are designed to be waterproof while they allow your body moisture to escape. To achieve this seemingly contrasting set of requirements, ski jackets are made of two layers. The inner layer allows your body to breathe and release moisture. The outer layer keeps you waterproof.

Your ski jacket needs to have a removable hood, taped seams to keep out water and venting zips under the arms for your body heat to escape. A snow skirt is an excellent addition since this will prevent the snow from getting inside your jacket.

Ideally, ski clothingfor the body must be made of polypropylene or wool. These materials absorb moisture nicely and do an excellent job of keeping you warm and dry. Cotton clothes must be avoided because they easily become drenched and take a long time to get dry. If the items you are buying come with a waterproofing rating, you are better off buying items with a higher rating.

Ski clothing should always be comfortable – not too tight or loose. Remember that you will be doing quite a bit of maneuvering in your clothes. So, there should be no tight spots anywhere.

Of course, your budget plays a decisive role while buying ski clothing. From the chic to the functional, there are all sorts of skiwear out there. But, if you are looking for something that is extremely useful minus the frills and bells, then, you must set a budget and shop according to your need.
