The bad days are here to stay for John McCain, it seems. Even as he is coming to terms with his failure in the Presidential elections and is mulling about “What’s next?”; trouble has come without calling in the form of a sold cell phone.

It is common knowledge that before we cell....oops...sell off our cell phones we erase all our personal details and contacts so that it does not get into the wrong hands or is misused. It is surprising how the McCain-Palin campaign did not know or care to do this before announcing a sale of their used office inventory.

A Fox 5 reporter picked up a Blackberry at the sale at a dirt cheap rate of $20. What proved to be a bigger catch than the phone was that the Blackberry was a storehouse of information on the McCain-Palin campaign with over 50 contacts of campaign leaders, politicians, lobbyists and journalist and also hundreds of important email. Even a pit bull with or without lipstick, will know that such information can be sensitive and be misused.

Even the best cell phones can be misused if we are not careful about the way we use them. Before changing our old cell phone for new, it’s wise to delete all our personal data. Different cell phones have different ways to delete data. Information in a cell phone is stored in the phone memory, SIM memory and the add-on card memory. It’s advisable to check the details stored in each of the memory slots before selling them.

Some people use their cell phones to shoot very intimate pictures of themselves or their significant other. In such cases, if the person you sell the phone to, has an inkling of this information, it’s possible that even if the data is deleted, it can be recovered through data recovery software. So it’s best not to use cell phones to shoot intimate pictures.
