Stone mosaic is an affordable material that can be used to remodel the floor of any room, easily and economically. These stones are made by gluing together pebbles obtained from sea beaches over a mesh base. The pebbles, being subjected to erosion from saline water and sand particles for years, are naturally smooth, thus giving the final tile a shiny, smooth texture, albeit with a number of grouting lines running through every tile, due to the gluing. These grouting lines also have a plus point though. They provide more traction than conventional marble or ceramic tiles when someone tries to walk over wet mosaic floor. These tiles are thus safe flooring materials for households with toddlers or senior citizens, who may not be dexterous or who may have lost mobility partially.
Stone mosaic floors come in a variety of colors and textures, and thus can be used to match the general décor of any room. From milky white to matted black, stone mosaic tiles are available in a plethora of hues and shades. These can be chosen as per requirement to match the colors of the furniture and the walls of the room. These tiles can be found in large sizes, about 12” x 12” dimensions. Tiles of these dimensions make the room look more spacious by having fewer grouting lines between the individual tiles.
Stone mosaic tiles are resistant to corrosion and normal wear and tear. These can, therefore, be effectively used in creating kitchen and bathroom floors. The floor in these places is always subjected to exposure to liquids at various temperatures, not to mention various kinds of acidic (lemon juice, vinegar) and alkaline (shampoo, soap) substances. Ordinary concrete floors suffer a good amount of damage on contact with these chemicals, but polished stone mosaic floors can resist these.
Stone mosaic floors are simple to install and maintain. Even a layman can buy a package of tiles from the shop and install the tiles after going through the instruction manual. Thus it saves money that would otherwise be spent on hiring a mason. Maintenance is also simple. Simply cleaning the tiles with a mild soap solution, washing them with water and wiping them dry will keep a stone mosaic floor looking like new for years at a stretch.
This cost effectiveness and efficiency, not to mention great looking floors, make stone mosaic tiles the perfect choice for flooring materials.
