Paintings In India: Depicts The Colorful History Of The Place

                                                                                         

The history of paintings in India is quite long. From the earlier times, Indian people have been quite artistic and it reveals in the works of painting from time to time. While classifying these paintings, two forms are being found. One is murals and the other is miniatures. Murals are those that are found in caves, palaces and temples. These use to be large in size and are mostly rock painting. In this context a good example will be the painting found in Ajantha & Kailasantaha temple. Miniature paintings are those that are being done in clothes, papers or in woods in small sizes.

A few types of Indian painting are being discussed below:

Miniature Painting: It is believed that the miniature painting developed in western India during the 16th to 18th century. The paintings of that century were part of manuscripts written at that time to illustrate and explain the subjects of the manuscripts. Examples are the Rajasthani & Mughal miniatures and Jain manuscripts. Though it is a perfect style of painting still it is not much practiced nowadays.

Madhubani Painting: The origins of Madhubani painting is believed to take place at the time of the Ramayana, when King Janak commissioned artists to do paintings at the time of marriage of his daughter, Sita, with Sri Rama. Sri Rama is considered to be an incarnation of the Hindu God Lord Vishnu. These types of paintings have mostly been practiced in the Mithila region of Bihar, India.

Rajasthani Painting: it originated and is found in Rajasthan. It took birth in the royal courts of Rajputana, India. The themes of these paintings are mainly, the stories of the epics- the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, Krishna’s life and beautiful landscapes. Colors were prepared from minerals, plants, conch shells and also precious stones, gold and silver were used.

Mughal Painting: it is the blend of Indian, Persian and Islamic styles. Such paintings are being found in the rule of the Mughal Emprerors.

Mysore Painting: it is a form of classical South Indian painting, originated in the town of Mysore in Karnataka.

Modern Indian Painting: Such new types of paintings in India have been found to be influenced by the western techniques and style. But these are often inspired by Indian themes and images.
