Let's face it. Finding a pure water solution for your home can be a daunting task. If you've been considering distillation, it may help to have some basic information that can answer the question, "how pure is distilled water?"
Over the years many families have relied on distillation as the pure water solution for their households. The main reason distillation has been such a popular choice is because of its ability to remove harmful bacteria. However, we now know that bacteria in our water take a back seat to all the chemical water pollution experts continue to warn us about.
So again, we have to ask,"how pure is distilled water?" Unfortunately, you need to know that distillation comes up short when it comes to getting rid of organic chemical contaminants from our water.
Don't get me wrong. You can still choose distillation as your pure water solution. However, if you want to feel confident about removing organic chemical toxins from your water, you're going to have to purchase a carbon filter system to go along with your distiller. This is an added expense to an, already, expensive system.
There is, yet, another consideration that I feel is important to bring to your attention. When it comes to finding a pure water solution, the question, "how pure is distilled water?" isn't the only question consumers are asking. "How HEALTHY is distilled water?" is the other question some people are wanting to know. This is because they are aware that water is Nature's original system for delivering essential minerals for healthy teeth, bones and other vital bodily functions. The distillation process strips water of these naturally-occuring minerals, making the water "dead."
At this point you may be wondering what the big deal is. Well, believe it or not, this "dead" water can have potentially harmful consequences for your health.
Relying on distillation as your pure water solution means that the water you and are your family are drinking becomes an acid with a pH below 7. Your body, automatically, will go into action to neutralize this acid by pulling from the stores of minerals that lie in your teeth and bones. If acidic body fluids aren't neutralized the production of free radicals increases, thereby increasing your risk of cancer. Cancer cells thrive in an acidic environment.
You can see evidence of this theory in action just by looking at the areas of the world where the water supplies have the highest mineral content. The people that live in these areas are virtually disease-free.
Ok. So now that I've tried to answer the question, "how pure is distilled water?" you may be wondering how can you provide water to your family that is clean AND healthy? Well, first of all, I need to point out that that there isn't any water water solution that can be 100% sure. That being said, however, there are some solutions that are better than others. I have found, through my own research, that water purification systems that use a multi-stage filtration process are the most efficient at purifiying water, while leaving important, healthful minerals untouched.
As a bonus to the health benefit, the calcium, potassium and magnesium that remain, give the water a good taste. You many not care about taste, but if you're a big water drinker like me, distilled water isn't going to satisfy your water-drinking taste buds.
More importantly, multi-stage filtration effectively removes odor-causing sediments, potentially hazardous levels of chlorine, and gets rid of organic and inorganic chemical contaminants like herbicides and pesticides.
Unlike distillers, I believe that multi-stage filtration is a great pure water solution because of its versitility. Clean, healthy water for drinking, cooking and showering is available to your family via faucets, shower filters or whole-house systems. You will find these appliances to be affordable and simple to install (and uninstall if you move) and maintain. If you want further assurance, many of these products certify their products performance.
I've already done some research for you and placed the results on a website. There you can see pictures of these appliances and read more about what they can do. My intention to is to provide a starting point for your research into a pure water solution that best meets the needs of your family.
How pure is distilled water when it comes to in-home use? In my humble opinion, not pure enough.
