I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure that deep down, we’re all basically the same. Be here! Get there! Parties, meetings, shopping, recitals, wrapping, kids Christmas plays and performances for church or school, and for those with high school aged teens involved in sports…basketball or soccer games (not too mention the all-consuming practices).
It just gets to be too much. Don’t we all hate malls, crowds, and left over products from which to chose? I hate not knowing what to buy for…virtually anyone. They have it, won’t want it or can’t use it.
It’s time to take back control! Control of the use of our finances, time and resources. Each of these things is valuable. Why waste them? I have a couple of ideas for you.
For saving money, it’s basically common sense. Set a budget and stick to it. Don’t use credit cards. If you can’t afford it, skip it. Find the sales. You, like me, have probably been doing that for years anyway. I can’t claim to have any new insight on this. It’s just as I said…use good old common sense.
I do, however, have some ideas for time and crowds. Shop close to home…I mean really close…like from home! Yes, you’re all ready on the internet; it’s really not a new concept. Nevertheless, with some guidance, and help, you can get all of your shopping done easily. There are things to be careful of:
***Don’t buy from a company that doesn’t have the right feel. That could include no one returning calls, or emails. Maybe they don’t have some kind of secure system so that you won’t be scammed from other sources by entering the original website. Watch for viruses or anything that might make your computer crash. A gift idea for yourself? A VERY good antivirus system.
***Don’t purchase something that you didn’t ask for. Beware of pop-ups, emails that you didn’t subscribe too. Many times these are just frauds. Again, you need to use common sense.
What are some gift ideas? Antiques, nostalgic gifts, anything reminding a person of the “good old days” of their youth. Those gifts are great. There’s a lot to choose from Pictures of family (especially if you can dig up old photos, of “long lost” relatives). How about an antique camera (or a brand new one) for the photographer in your family. Antique tools for the carpenter can be a fun idea.
Another, very unique idea would be to purchase “fun” gifts (especially for the elderly who like to think they’re still kids). Things like hula-hoops, retro-style lunch boxes, nostalgic candy or yo-yo’s!
You can purchase any of these things on line, easily and it will save you time. It will also help avoid the crowds.
Happy Shopping!
