Scarlet Knights -10 1/2 vs. Cardinals
Rutgers has resurrected its season with five straight victories and looks to make it six in the season finale against Louisville Thursday night. The Cardinals (5-6, 1-5) look to become bowl eligible while the Scarlet Knights (6-5, 4-2) look to make its case for a bowl better by winning and running its record to 7-5.
Rutgers started the season 0-3 and won only once in its first six games before running off their five straight victories. Once left for dead, Rutgers picked on its conference foes to get back into contention. While not a conference foe, the Knights topped a weaker foe in Army 30-3 on November 22. Mike Teel had a solid game under center for the Knights against Army, going 23 for 33 with 359 yards and a touchdown. The senior has had a solid season with 2652 yards and 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
While Rutgers has put a dismal start behind them with a tremendous effort down the stretch, Louisville has achieved just the opposite. Once 5-2, the Cardinals have dropped four straight to drop under .500 for the first time since they lost their first game of the season to Kentucky.
Louisville also has not played since November 22 when they lost to West Virginia 35-21. Behind most of the game, senior quarterback Hunter Cantwell was forced to throw it often. Cantwell put it up 47 times, completing 27 of those for 276 yards with one touchdown but three interceptions.
This will be the fifth time that these teams have met with each team claiming two victories. Louisville won last year 41-38 but have not won in New Jersey against Rutgers, losing the only trip there 28-25 in 2006.
