A large number of people suffer due the common oral problem of gum diseases. These are mainly caused due to the development of plaque which breeds harmful bacteria. Gum disease is also known as periodontal disease. Below is general information for readers to learn more about this common dental malady. More information can be provided to you by the dental expert in your area.

The leading cause is considered to be due to plaque which forms a colorless, thin film of bacteria on the teeth by mixing with starch and sugar in a person’s diet; resulting in the formation of acids and its by-products in the mouth. The irritated gums become swollen and tender; causing bleeding when you do not floss or brush. If the plaque is not removed and a person does not maintain the health of their teeth by using oral hygiene, one will see hard tarter form around the necks of your teeth; further leading into complication of the gums.

As a result of the above situation, the gums will shift away from the teeth; forming small pockets between the two. Plaque then gets filled into these pockets and ultimately expands into deeper pockets. The deep pockets then prevent you from cleaning out the plaque. This situation causes damage to potential bone structures with the erosion of the underlying support.

The main cause of a gum disease then is due to the plaque buildup as the plague (filled with germs) form on your gums and teeth. Your gums are then irritated by the toxins that are produced by the bacteria in the plaque which results in damage to your gums making them swell and later bleed. Even if the gum disease initially affects only one particular tooth, eventually, it will expand and affect all the teeth. You have to prevent the gum disease at the initial stages to save your mouth.
