Today, computers are the most important part of our lives and used broadly to automate the tasks and make the processes easier and faster. It means that a huge amount of important data is encoded in digital format and processed and used by computers. As a result, the concern of data security comes as an important one to address. Several measures are taken by the users to protect their important and confidential data from unconstitutional access. These comprise encryption, password protection and so forth, which could offer layers of safety to defend vital data. But in fact, these schemes are not applicable in some cases and are not completely foolproof. The hackers are still able to misuse your private data. Another option to safeguar is to provide physical security. However, it is not always potential. When the storage media, like hard drive having confidential business critical information, has to be transferred or disposed off to another location, physical data security might not be feasible to be kept. The biggest data security issue occurs when you sell or donate your computer. If you sell your computer, just after formatting the hard drive, the data could be recovered very easily by the hackers and could be misused. In such circumstances, to ensure the complete safety of your data, you need to carry out drive wipe operation. Drive wipe is the procedure to securely remove all the data from hard drive, making it beyond the recovery possibilities. This process does not require any physical effort to destroy the hard drive. The drive remains intac performing wipe hard drive, only the data will be removed from the hard drive. Drive wipe is feasible using specially designed tools, known as drive wipe software. Drive wipe tools are essential as general deletion of data or hard drive formatting actually does not remove the data for good. The data actually remains on the drive, until it has been overwritten and it can be recovered using data recovery software. The drive wipe software work on the principle of overwriting the data. The whole disk is overwritten by random binary digits, which do not leave any trace of the data. Many goodhard drive wipe software wipe entire hard drive in a single go. Along with data, they also wipe system software, hard drive data structure, locked system files, previously deleted files etc.
