Coming up from the Championship to the top flight for the first time in the club’s history they were expected to go right back into it but have done remarkably well to exceed everyone’s expectations - including their own. 22 points from their first 14 fixtures and sitting pretty on 6th position is a highly commendable achievement for the Yorkshire team.
Though Brown concedes that they were fortunate to catch some teams at the right time –Tottenham who are not easy to beat but were reeling with internal difficulties and a power-packed performance across against the precocious but fickle teens at Arsenal - he does and should take much deserved credit in getting his players to respond brilliantly to the tricky challenges they were set.
The great start they’ve got has given them an excellent platform to build on and perhaps even end finishing in the top 10, replicating Reading’s fantastic first season in top flight record of 2006-2007.
Brown’s Tigers were restrained when they came up against Chelsea, still feeling the sting from their home defeat by Liverpool and the Tigers were up against a world class opposition who were a class apart with their slick passing.
But on the whole Tigers came as a pleasant surprise to all including hundreds of thousands of Fantasy Football lovers across the globe. Most of them not having picked the Hull boys for their earlier record.
Next up are the Potters at Stoke-upon Trent, similarly playing their first premiership campaign, and who had been on a recent roll themselves defeating Aston Villa and Arsenal on the way while winning their last four fixtures at home blotted in between by a stern chastisement at Old Trafford by one Cristiano Ronaldo.
Love him or hate him, he’s got to be on your team!
