It is important that you understand the auction process when you start to sell your items in an auction.
What do I mean by the auction process?
Before you start to sell, I believe you need to understand the process that your potential buyers have to go through so that you can come out with an attractive sale approach to entice them to buy your item.
When I started to sell my first item, I was not sure what to do even though the auction site will prompt you as you go along. It is not just merely filling up a form on the screen.
Put yourself in the shoes of a buyer.
For example, you want to buy a musical CD that you could not find in the music store.
You would log on to eBay and enter the item description that you are looking for to do a search.
Would you enter something like “Music CD” or “Michael Jackson Thriller Music CD”?
Since you know what you are looking for, you will enter as much details on the item so that you will narrow down your search.
You will pick one of the results that somehow attracted your attention. It could be the digital image, the competitive price, etc.
After clicking on the chosen result from the search, you will be shown more details; more elaborate description of the item, seller feedback or reputation, etc.
You are likely to check his feedback profile so as to give yourself some comfort in buying from this seller and not the others who may be offering the same or similar price and terms too.
Once you are happy with it, you select the mode of payment and you are likely to see that you can pay by various type of credit cards or Paypal or bank transfer.
Then you will receive your item and if not, you will contact the seller. When you have received your item, you will be invited to give some feedback on the transaction.
In short, I strongly recommend that you go through the whole auction process by buying something on eBay to appreciate what your potential buyers will have to go through. From this transaction, you will learn what actions you need to do to attract them and enlighten them so that they will buy from you and be your repeat customers eventually.
Based on the above, it can be summarized as follows:
- Item heading and description should be as detailed as possible
- A digital image of your item
- Pricing has to be competitive
- Your seller feedback or reputation profile; ideally no negative feedback
- Mode of payment you will be accepting; Paypal highly recommended
- Follow-up after sale and delivery of the item; to get good feedback rating
One last tip, you should always do searches on items that you are selling. You will get to know and learn from your competitors how you should put up your item for sale and gain an advantage over them. This is how I manage to be so successful in my own auctions.
