With Goodrich Corporation being an aerospace manufacturing company, many people today are surprised to learn that it was actually founded back in 1870. It was formed in Akron Ohio by a man named Dr. Benjamin Franklin Goodrich and was originally named Goodrich Tew & Co.

Acquisitions and a Name Change

It was after a series of name changes and acquisitions, that finally in 1986 after merging with Uniroyal became recognized as one of the largest tire and rubber producers on the planet under the name B.F. Goodrich. Then in 1988 the company was again sold to Michelin a competing name in the tire manufacturing business.

Goodrich Corp Enters the Aerospace Industry

Then in 1997 B.F. Goodrich entered the aerospace industry with the acquisition Coltech Industries along with TRW Aeronautical Systems, formerly known as Lucas Aerospace. Then in 2001 the company went through another name change becoming simply Goodrich Corporation.

Its Goodrich not Goodyear!

For some time in the latter parts of the 1900's the B.F. Goodrich had a problem with being mistaken for another tire manufacturer by the name of Goodyear Tire Company. This prompted the company to undertake an advertising campaign focused solely at educating the public to the differences between the two companies, which was successful.

Known for Quality Tires

As it stands at the present time Goodrich Corporation is recognized by the public mostly as manufacturer of tires for cars and trucks. However the fact is that the company is highly diversified. Also, many people don't realize that when they purchase Michelin tires they are purchasing tires that are made by the same company that makes Goodrich tires.
