LSU Tigers -3 1/2 vs. Mississippi Rebels
It is far from an usual season when LSU drops two at home, but it took quite an incredible rally to prevent it from being three. Midway thought the third quarter last week, the Tigers found themselves behind-way behind to Troy by 28 points. 37 points later, 30 in the fourth quarter, the Tigers found themselves claiming a pulse-pounding victory 40-31 for the largest comeback in school history, besting their previous best which was set against this week's opponent.
In addition, this week they face a team who has had success with victories in Tiger Stadium in the past, and close games recently.
LSU (7-3, 3-3) will play host to Mississippi (6-4, 3-3) Saturday afternoon. The Tigers have claimed six straight over the Rebels, however each of the last three games in Baton Rouge three points or less. In fact Mississippi may prefer to play LSU on the road. During the six game skid to LSU, Ole Miss has lost at home by an average of 27 points, but lost on the road by a total of seven points in three games. They beat them there in 1997, 1999 and 2001, with the latter being their last victory in the series.
This season the Rebels are 2-2 on the road, while the 18th-ranked Tigers are 5-2 at home. They have played well against the top teams it has faced this year. They are 1-2 in games against Top 25 teams, with Florida their lone victory 31-30 on the road. However they played very well in the two losses to Wake Forest on September 6, and Alabama on October 18, losing the pair by a combined six points.
LSU survived a devastating loss to a non-conference opponent in Troy last week, but have posted a disappointing 3-3 mark within the SEC this year. They will try and take their final two conference games this week and in Arkansas to end the year to gain a respectable 5-3 SEC mark. Mississippi appears headed for a bowl game as they played a non-conference opponent of their own last week, Louisiana-Monroe. They, however needed no incredible rally and won easily 59-0 to become bowl eligible for the first time since the days of Super Bowl hero Eli Manning at Ole Miss in 2003.
