Hair that is very greasy and oily will appear to be quite lifeless, lacking in volume and will be very difficult to manage and control even if you have recently just washed your hair.

It can often appear that hair that is very oily has the ability not to stay clean and if this is sounding familiar to you, then you need to be taking the right steps in order to combat the excess oils that are appearing on your scalp. Do not think that you have tried many of the products available and that nothing is happening for you. The probable reason that you are not seeing results is because you are either taking the wrong steps or just using the wrong products for your hair and scalp.

The oil that is released by the scalp is actually quite normal and is in fact needed. It is when this oil is being released too much that problems do appear. The obvious one is that the hair looks and feels very oily and greasy. But you need to be aware that hair that is oily is in fact quite healthy as the oils are needed to help protect each individual hair that is on your head. The reason that your hair is healthy is because it helps to protect the hair and also the scalp from becoming too dry.

There are a number of hormones that are referred to as androgens and these can make mattes worse as they can stimulate the glands that are within the scalp, and this in turn will lead to more oils being secreted. These are male hormones and can be found in women also. What they do is two things, first they cause the pores within the scalp to become enlarged and they also increase the amount of oils that are being secreted from the glands.

If a person is suffering from a fluctuating hormonal activity then this is going to cause more oils to be produced. It quite common to get oily hair and it is not surprising that more women have this condition especially if they are going through a pregnancy or menopause. Then there is also the factor of stress which can also affect the level of hormones that are being produced.

As well as hormonal activity there are other factors that can cause the hair to become too oily such as that of washing the hair too often. This causes the oils to be stripped away and this then causes the glands to produce even more oils than expected. Also when it comes to washing your hair you need to avoid scrubbing your scalp as this can also cause more oils to be produced.

Then there is the excess usage of styling products that can also cause the hair to look very oily and there are also the environmental factors that can also lead to the hair feeling and looking greasy also.

But internal factors also have an impact such as that of having a poor diet can lead to the build up of excess oils being released. It is important that you take care of what you are eating as this will have an impact on the appearance of your hair and have an impact on your health also.
