A newly introduced kind of sauna has gained attention in recent times. Our new sauna uses far infrared heaters instead of wood or electric stoves which were primarily used in traditional saunas. The intrinsic difference between the heaters of a traditional sauna and the infrared ones is that the former heats the air of the sauna and not the objects and the people in it, whereas the latter does exactly the opposite.
Due to the air not being heated, Far infrared heaters are usable anywhere, indoors or out, while
maintaining its warming effect on people. The enclosure is made to give the sauna an indoor atmosphere.
A frequency ray of light that is unseen by humans is a good definition of infrared. Infrared Radiation is a term that is sometimes used to describe the type of heat that comes from these heaters. (IR) or radiation of Far Infrared (FIR or Far Infrared Radiation)is not the same as Ultraviolet Radiation which can be the cause of sunburn or radiation. Most of the earth's heat is a result of IR from the sun. Both the earth and the human body give off IR.
Advocates of Far infrared saunas claim they possess even greater healing benefits than traditional saunas.
The Health Benefits
The health benefits of using traditional saunas include relieving discomfort and feelings of stiffness caused by arthritis, as well as deep cleaning the skin through intense perspiration. Also, steam given off by traditional saunas may be beneficial in alleviating respiratory issues like congestion or bronchitis.
Infrared saunas don't work as well when it comes to alleviating breathing problems however, because they do not produce steam. In terms of working up a sweat as well as alleviating arthritis pain, however, they are nearly equivalent to traditional saunas. One good thing about this type of sauna is that it uses Infrared Radiation. This has been reported to have a one of a kind healing quality. The radiant heat of conventional saunas does not offer this. The makers of FIR say that it infiltrates into the internal organs and muscle tissue in the body and releases toxins that will strenthen your immune system.
Of course, some of the claims may not be entirely truthful. There are plenty of anecdotal findings, but accurate medical research proving this is scarce. Nevertheless, saunas are useful for alleviating symptoms caused by certain health problems. In comparison to traditional saunas Infrared saunas seem to have extra benefits.
Advantages over traditional saunas
Quite a few advantages of infrared saunas over steam saunas exist. Because they work using a lower heat setting some people may find it a more pleasurable and tolerable experience in comparison with regular saunas. IR saunas are less expensive to operate, as they do not need to create heat like traditional saunas do. These saunas will warm up a lot faster than conventional ones. This is one of the reasons that they are able to reduce their operating costs.
Some people find the hot, dry air of traditional saunas uncomfortable to breathe. Air quality both inside and outside a sauna will remain similar if the air is not heated.
Water is not used with infared saunas. This eliminates the problems of bacterial build-up that can occur in damp areas because they are more portable and easier to install.
For some, the IR sauna presents some disadvantages. For example, there are those who say that the IR sauna doesn't leave them feeling as relaxed and refreshed as a conventional sauna. IR saunas typically do not use steam, which may prove beneficial or detrimental depending on your perspective. The typically dry air of a sauna is not comfortable for some people to breathe, but despite that, steam can be effective in relieving respiratory problems.
A connoisseur of saunas might not consider IR saunas to be true saunas. Far Infrared sauna sometimes does not "feel" right for those who love the rituals and preparations that are associated with conventional saunas.
Infrared or Conventional
All sorts of saunas have positive results. Saunas can relax your whole body and make your skin feel clean, fresh and smooth. People swear by their therapeutic qualities, but their effective use in disease treatment has yet to be proven. Some of the medical allegations promised for infrared saunas are not scientifically proven, however you might actually get a few good benefits with IR therapy.
No matter what you are looking for, saunas are relaxing and enjoyable. Conventional saunas don't have the advantages of far inrared saunas in that they are not easier or cheaper and they don't offer the additional health benefits. These are excellent reasons to give them a try.
