There are various ways of consuming food. We have conventional methods of cooking our food item like baking, steaming, frying, boiling, toasting, roasting and stewing. Among them, cooking with edible oil is quite a popular one. Edible oil comes in myriad varieties and tastes. Each of them has specific flavors which make certain food items like meat and vegetables all the more palatable. However, not all cooking oils are good for your health. In fact, the saturated fat content of particular oils is known to have adverse effects on the heart. But that does not mean you have to give up your oil-based recipes as healthy oils are also available.

There is no one way of defining healthy oils. However, most health experts agree that those oils which are low in saturated fat and high in monosaturated fat are healthier than others. Examples include olive oil, almond oil, canola oil, whipped margarine and rice bran oil.

Olive oil and canola oil are considered the best among healthy oils. Olive oil helps in lowering cholesterol level and reducing the risk of cancer. It also contains antioxidants and has a long shelf life. Canola oil is recommended by health experts as it contains the best fatty acid composition among all edible oils. It also has a mild flavor which does not affect the taste of the main ingredients.

Now, healthy oils are most advantageous when your application of them is appropriate. For instance, canola oil, corn oil, safflower oil and sunflower oil are more suitable for deep frying as they have a high smoke point. Oils low in saturated fat like olive oil, canola oil and peanut oil are also more feasible for stir-frying and salad dressing.

Edible oils are responsible for a large chunk of the world’s most delicious cuisines and as such, your kitchen cannot obviously do without them. Healthy oils therefore help you enjoy many dishes without causing havoc on your health. You can shop for them online and avail low prices and home deliveries. You can thus easily buy the best cooking oils for your meals. However, make it a point to use them sparingly.
