There are several advantages to receiving your teeth whitening treatments at a dentist’s office; one being that you will often see immediate results, where as the home treatments may take weeks to achieve the same results. The biggest disadvantage to in office whitening treatments is cost. These treatments can be very expensive, though most people believe the results to be worth the cost.
Some of the whitening treatments available at a dentist’s office include,
Zoom!: This is one of the most popular teeth whitening systems available today. When using this system you can expect an office visit of about an hour. Treatment begins with the dentist removing any plaque buildup along the gum line. Once this is done, a peroxide based gel is applied to the teeth; at this point a special light is then put in place to activate the gel. The Zoom! whitening system may whiten teeth up to nine shades. This treatment is considered to be among the most effective of teeth whitening systems. Some people experience pain due to blistering of the gums, but overall this system appears to work very well.
BriteSmile: This is another teeth whitening system that is similar to Zoom!, except that it uses a special led light to activate the bleaching agent in the gel. With BriteSmile results seem to vary according to the individual receiving the treatment, and many people report pain after treatment that may last as long as seven days.
Rembrandt Professional Teeth Whitening: The Rembrandt in-office teeth whitening system uses a hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel that is activated by a plasma arc light. If you choose to get Rembrandt, treatment involves two 30-minute treatments, as well as preparation; you should prepare to be in your dentist’s office a total of about 90 minutes. With Rembrandt teeth whitening you can expect to achieve a whitening of several shades.
Whitening Tray: You may also use a whitening tray you can get from your dentist. Your dentist will design a tray specifically for your teeth and prescribe a whitening gel that may be used in conjunction with the trays.
