The preparations for Christmas appears to become earlier and earlier each year. A charity Christmas card shop opening in Norfolk, England, is straight away watching the shoppers coming through their doors and its just the beginning of October. I hold up my hands and say that im the first to moan when I find Christmas marketing for this and that mega store on the television, appearing sooner and sooner every year. I believe however that in the case of charity Christmas cards the general populous believe that a big bit of the money from the card sales goes to charity, but on a more real level see it as a chance of contacting family and friends.
What annoys me is when larger businesses see it as a chance of taking a little off the top so the money the charities get is less and less. I understand the fact that some Christmas cards are created to make money, which is fine, but those alleging to be charity cards should show how much of the price, you are spending for the cards, is going to go to the charity. And anything lower than 50% is just using the term charity Christmas cards as a marketing term rather than a statement of intent. The shop in Norfolk I spoke about earlier ensures that 79p in every 100p is given to charity, which I feel is the direction this kind of thing should go so good job guys.
I think with charity Christmas cards people buy early so that they are prepared for what can be a really hectic time of year. It often lets individuals to formulate what they are going to say to people that they might not have that much contact with.
