Designing brochure printing materials is not as easy as it looks. The different options that are made available to you mean that you will have many variables that you will have to decide upon and weed out. To top it all of, you also need to think about the designs as well as the different elements that you want to incorporate in your design.
Because of the different things that you should consider when you are creating your brochures, it is understandable that you will forget certain things. However, here are the five things that you should not forget when you are designing brochures printing materials. Forgetting to consider one of the following things will be detrimental to your prints.
Do not forget to work on your desired document size
During the design phase of creating your brochures, you should determine the final size that you want your brochure in. many designers go to printers bringing their designs at a different specification than what they want the final material to be in. they expect that since you can scale the designs, it can be easily remedied.
However, scaling is not the solution here. If you scale your designs, there will be a chance that your final output will be distorted as a result of having the wrong proportions when scaled. The best way to remedy this is to have your designs at your desired final output size.
Do not forget your margins
Margins are very important in design. They are even more important in brochures because you need to think about the different folds that you can incorporate on your design. The folds of your brochures are what separate brochures from other materials. You need to give careful attention to the folds and the margins that you use so that the brochure will look clean and polished.
Do not forget your bleeds
Bleeds are another thing that you should never take for granted especially if you are using a full color background in your prints. Bleeds give you the insurance and the allowance that you need in order to avoid white borders that results from the misalignment of cutters.
Do not forget your image resolution
300 dpi is a must for any image that you use. It is the industry standard that you should use in order to have crisp detail and vivid colors. Having images that have less resolutions will result in less detailed, soft and fuzzy images that are a waste of space.
Do not forget to check the actual proofs
Actual proofs are important to check for the color accuracy of your printer. PDF proofs can only do so much as to give you a final draft in which you can check for errors that you may have over looked. The aforementioned color accuracy aside, actual proofs give you so much more benefits because you can actually see how the printed product will look like.
Designing brochures printing materials is fun and somewhat easy to do. However do not let the joy of design cloud you from doing the tips mentioned above. If you take these tips to heart, you will never have problems printing your brochures again and again.
