The 26 years old Argentinean David Nalbandian, who is the favorite to win the Stockholm Open and is the top-seeded of the tournament, moved on to the second round of the tournament by beating the American tennis player, rank 82th Bobby Reynolds, 6-1, 6-1. Nalbandian defeated Reynolds just in 55 minutes playing a great tennis.

The Argentine will face the Swedish Joachim Johansson in the second round and will try to win his ninth career title at the Stockholm Open.

Currently, the ranked No.7 Nalbandian, has been under pressure to defend his ranking points, however, he expressed that he is not concerned about it, he is just focusing on playing good and giving his best in every match. Now the Argentinean is concentrated in the Stockholm Open and a week after that, in playing the final against Spain in the Davis Cup. Nalbandian has also stated that he is not interested in classifying to the Masters Cup in Shanghai since he is more interested in the Davis Cup to obtain his first title in that tournament. "It's not really one of my goals this year (making the Masters Cup), we have a chance to win the Davis Cup and that's what I'm concentrating on. That's what I'm worrying about now," said Nalbandian.

Nalbandian has had great success during his tennis career, but just like any other tennis player, he also has his ups and downs. The Argentinean turned professional in 2000 and in 2001 he got in the top 50. In his second year as professional, Nalbandian got to his first final of Grand Slam at Wimbledon; an outstanding accomplishment considering the fact that it was his first grass court event. Another great achievement for the No. 7 of the world was his title at the Master Cup in Shanghai during 2005, where he defeated the then No. 1 of the world, Roger Federer.

However, at the beginning of the season 2007, Nalbandian got several abdominal, back and leg injuries that made him collapse in the rankings to the 26th position. Nevertheless, he recovered again and later he obtained two titles of the ATP Masters Series in Madrid and Paris, beating the best two players of the ATP at the moment: Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal; both wins let him climb once again to the top 10 rankings.

In this year the things for Nalbandian have been better; he started in the top 10, won the Telmex Cup and by that got to the No.8 spot of the standings. However, the Argentinean didn’t have much success after that and lost almost in every one of the following tournaments. Even so, his expectations haven’t concluded and his excitement for the Davis Cup is huge as it is his main goal for this year.

Fans, analysts and coaches know that Nalbandian is a great tennis player and that he still has a brilliant career coming ahead. Many people hope for him to accomplish his objectives this year by winning the Davis Cup for first time for Argentina and winning the Stockholm Open, as well as defending the points of his ranking spot and adding more titles to his career.
