Nearly everyone in your office has a digital camera. You have been hearing raves about Brand X. Maybe it’s time you bought one. You actually have no idea about Brand X. All you know is that your officemate told you it had really great features and took high-resolution pictures. Just when you are about to go off and buy Brand X, someone in your office buys a camera from Brand Y. Brand Y looks really sleek. It takes even higher resolution pictures than Brand X. This officemate claims that Brand Y was featured in Testseek. It was even given an award for being a product test winner. What is Testseek? You decide to see.
Testseek is an online search engine conceived and developed by in 2005 by Peter Kolqvist and Fredrik Engdahl. It is run by a Swedish-based company Eddex Web Info Mining. Testseek is a shopping comparison guide with pages on more than 70,000 products grouped into about 200 categories. Category lists, Most Popular Products, and Most Recent Reviews are lists, which facilitate quick product searches. A search box is also available on the site’s page to assist the consumer in his search for products that range from phones to outdoor tents and exercise machines.
Every product that is featured in this site is allotted a page with expert reviews, user opinions, Testseek scores, best prices, and an image gallery.
Testseek is a review aggregator that gathers expert reviews from hundreds of Internet sites and magazines. Authorities in their respective fields write about product test winners. These reviews are then abstracted to form concise summaries for quick scrutiny. Complete expert reviews can be read through links placed immediately below the review abstracts.
Each expert also gives the product a test score. The average of all the expert ratings is computed to produce a Testseek (TS) score. TS scores are written in percentage form. Test winners usually receive 100%.
User opinions are personal reviews made by current owners of the featured product. Although these are not as reliable as expert assessments, these opinions still complement the views presented by the experts and provide a more concrete view of product uses.
The store with the lowest price is highlighted in the Best Prices part of the product page. The site also provides a list of the other merchandisers and their corresponding prices for comparison. What’s really good is that links are provided to connect you directly to the merchandisers. Prices are also updated several times a day everyday by PriceRunner, giving you real-time market prices.
Certain awards may also be given to some products. Items may be named Best in Test, 100% Kickass, and Highly Recommended. These awards are given by the editorial team to products that are test winners in their specific categories.
An Image Gallery provides high-resolution pictures of each product.
With just several clicks of the mouse, Testseek has provided you with so much valuable information. Now you know. It isn’t just a choice between Brand X and Y. You’re now choosing between Brand A and B or maybe even Brand C. Testseek gives you easy access to the essential information you need to make a choice. Expert ratings give you the good, the bad, and the bottomline of each product. It even provides you with a list of shops where you can make your purchases.
