With only three exceptions, every country in the world uses the metric system, so in everyday transactions that you will have while traveling, you will find that it is helpful to know a little bit about metric conversion so that you can understand and use metric lengths in a more cognizant manner on your trip abroad.

A length conversion table is a chart that you can find online and print out. It will show the conversions from meters to feet, for example, and list from one to as many table pages you wish to print. It can be handy to keep in your coat pocket or purse, so you can refer to it whenever you wish.

Metric conversions can also be performed on a length conversion calculator. These handy devices are found online or within hand-held calculators, and you simply pick the length conversion you wish to make, type in the number you want converted, and then stand back while the calculator does the math for you in record speed. For online conversion calculators you will, of course, need Internet access, so you will want to consider that as you travel.

Of course, all of the length conversion tables and calculators are based on mathematical conversion formulas. The metric system is based on base ten.
