Sometimes there can be a fine line between something that looks interesting and something that looks cluttered and confusing.

Flyers can often walk this line when a company tries to get a unique design. Every kind of print advertisement has to balance information and eye candy in order to do the best job possible. You want people to be interested enough to read them and you want people to get all the information possible.

Some advertisements put a stronger focus on one or the other. A brochure is going to have more words than images and posters are probably going to have a greater focus on getting people to look at them than providing a lot of detailed information.

Flyers can be a more difficult cross between the two, which means many companies might not be entirely sure which to provide more emphasis to.

A good flyer initially needs to grab a person’s attention, but because they can take the flyer with them, it has the potential to give people more details than a poster can, and because it’s larger, it can say more than a postcard.

This is what leads to a lot of layouts that try to provide an emphasis on both the image and the words, and ends up looking confusing and hard to follow. But why does this happen? Because flyers are often a lower cost form of marketing, and therefore are often produced with short notice, the design is done fast, which leads to lower quality results.

But you can get those flyers out there fast and still have a good looking design if you focus on setting up some strong flyer templates.

All you need to do is initially take the time to design a handful of different flyer templates to use, and then when it comes time to get your flyers designed, pick your template and fill in the blanks. Now you have an effective flyer you were able to print in very short notice without sacrificing the quality at all.

When you are designing the flyers be sure to properly balance the images with the words being used, and don’t try to put too much information in. All you end up with is something too cluttered to be easily accessible. Someone should be able to glance through your flyer and know exactly what your overall message is. If they can’t do that they aren’t going to have much interest in trying to sort through your flyer.

There really isn’t any reason not to get a flyer template going. You’ll save yourself time in the long run, you’ll be able to produce great flyers at a moment’s notice, and you’ll end up with something people will have interest in looking at. What else do you need to know?
