Causes of Canker Sores, Mouth Problems

If you have canker sores appears in your mouth and at that time you take the orange juice, you will definitely receive chronic pain. Many people are suffering from this problem now days. An estimate says that one out of five people are suffering from this problem. Canker sores are small ulcer craters in the lining of the mouth that are frequently painful and sensitive.

About 20-40% of American people are facing the problem of canker sores. The problem affects mainly to the people who are in young or adulthood but it slower down with the growth of age. These are not same as cold sores as cold sores occur in outer lip and these are found inside the mouth.

Definition-Canker sores are also known as aphthous ulcers. These are small sores that occur inside the mouth. They can occur on the tongue and on the inside of the cheeks and lips these are the parts of the mouth that can move. They usually pop up alone, but sometimes they show up in small clusters.

Groups- Canker sores are generally classified in three groups and these are minor sores, major sores and herpetiform ulcers. Minor sores have diameter of imm-10mm and they stays for 7-10 days. Major sores have a diameter of greater than 10mm and they may take anywhere between 10-30 days to heal. They may leave a scar after they heal and the herpetiform ulcers are the ulcers that are formed by a cluster of multiple small individual sores and they can be less than 3mm. Generally, they also heal within 7-10 days.

Causes-The exact cause of most canker sores is still unknown. Stress or tissue injury is thought to be the cause of simple canker sores. Certain foods that include citrus or acidic fruits and vegetables such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, figs, tomatoes, strawberries can trigger a canker sore or make the problem worse. Sometimes a sharp tooth surface or dental appliance, such as braces or ill-fitting dentures, might also trigger canker sores.

Some cases of complex canker sores are caused by an underlying health condition and these can be an impaired immune system; nutritional problems, such as vitamin B-12, zinc, folic acid, or iron deficiency; and gastrointestinal tract disease, such as Celiac disease and Crohn's disease.
