Social phobia is one of the most common anxiety disorders in which a person is afraid of being in a social situation. A person with social phobia experiences debilitating anxiety that affects important aspects of their life.

People with social phobia are extremely self-conscious and worried about what others may say or think about them. They are often afraid of voicing their opinions, out of fear that they will be judged or criticized. People with social phobia tend to look down on themselves or suffer from feelings of low self-worth. They are often worried about being noticed by others and find socializing to be very terrifying.

Some people with social anxiety may seem "shy," but in a phobia, this is taken to irrational extremes. For example, if you struggle with social phobia, you may be reluctant to make a crucial phone call because you're anxious about talking on the telephone. You finally make the phone call, but you're so anxious that you "freeze up" or forget why you called. Although it happens to everyone sometimes, for a person with social phobia it may occur every single time, to the point where they find it impossible to make any phone calls.

Maybe it is the evening before a big meeting at work and you find yourself unable to fall asleep. You dread the idea of being in front of a room with your boss and all your colleagues watching as you talk about a new idea or project. You can't help but feel extremely self-conscious and embarrassed. Even after the meeting, you keep overanalyzing everything you said and did. You fear that you embarrassed yourself in front of your co-workers by stuttering or saying the wrong thing.

Or maybe you would like to go to parties and make new friends, but you avoid social gatherings because you're anxious about meeting new people. You find crowded parties daunting and the idea of meeting someone new frightens you. You worry about what you will say, or that you will get laughed at. You might stay at home a lot because you're too scared to go out. These are only some of the ways social phobias can impact our daily lives.

Social phobias are overblown fears that can keep you from reaching your career goals or fully enjoying life. But even people who know their fears are irrational may not be able to eliminate their fears. People with social phobia would like to socialize and feel confident around others, but are too afraid to try. Despite their conscious desires and efforts, they cannot shake their phobia because every phobia is based in the unconscious mind. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques are the most successful phobia treatments because they work at this unconscious level.

It can be hard for people with social phobia to get help because they are reluctant to visit a counselor or talk about their fear. This is among the reasons why hypnosis therapy programs work great for them. The programs foster a confidence boosting, calm mind frame in a privacy, without being intimidating or overwhelming.

The first stage in a phobia program is stress relief. Hypnosis is a powerful tool for eliminating your anxiety and tension. Once you are relaxed, hypnotic techniques will foster positive thoughts in your unconscious and end your fears. NLP techniques will extinguish your fears by targeting the thought process that is responsible for a phobia.

In conventional hypnosis therapy, distinctively worded post-hypnotic suggestions are utilized to address one unique phobia. The problem is, people have a tendency to ignore being directly told what to think or do, so conventional hypnosis therapy doesn't work very well. A phobia calls for a combination of Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and NLP.

Ericksonian hypnosis therapy techniques work better than conventional hypnosis therapy because they use suggestions that are not obvious to the conscious mind, versus direct suggestions. These ideas are placed in discussion, in different stories and metaphors, to persuade the unconscious to follow a different line of thought. This is why Ericksonian hypnosis therapy is far more advanced than conventional hypnosis and much more difficult for the unconscious to reject.

A program that utilizes Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP techniques can treat social phobia and any other phobia, in any person. This is because multiple techniques are used together to increase their success rate. People are frequently in awe of the seemingly miraculous changes they can get using hypnosis therapy. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP are excellent tools to help build your confidence and overcome social phobia so you can live life to the fullest.
