No one wants to be known as the company who lost out on a great amount of money because their website was down. The cold hard truth though is that a company can receive that label rather easily. Many well-known companies cringe when they see their names on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, detailing what went wrong.

The amount of money that can be lost through downtime is staggering. The online business market has lost billions of dollars due to sluggish systems or downtime related issues. This is especially true during the holiday seasons. There tends to be a great spike in online traffic and many websites who are not equipped to keep up.

Unfortunately, an insufficient server can easily fail you. Although it can cost a great deal of money to invest in a capable server, the payoff will most likely be worth it. The peace of mind gained knowing you are more than prepared for the future is hard to replace. The online market is growing and so should your IT budget.

In our society, most end-users will only wait a maximum of 5 seconds before trying to take their online business elsewhere. This presents major problems to businesses that experience sudden bursts of high traffic. Sluggish systems have far greater financial impact on the online community than outages or down servers. As today’s population keeps getting busier, the time they expect to find what they want will grow shorter.

Finally, companies who have not taken the time to invest in web site monitoring can be in for a big wake up call if they ever experience downtime issues. Numerous companies have learned their lesson by hard experience and now wouldn’t be without a monitoring system. The best solution to the financial effect of downtime is to proactively work to prevent it.
