Bartosz Bosacki scored twice to lift Poland to a 2-1 win Tuesday over Costa Rica as part of the action in Group A, these two teams are already knocked out of the tournament.
Poland's victory means they finish third in Group A with one win and two defeats - the same record as four years ago in Korea/Japan. With three defeats, Costa Rica obtained bottom place, basically this was the poorest of their FIFA World Cups.
Poland, was not a very strong team during this World Cup, they also lost its first two games in Germany, but at least the team was able to clean up honor with a win over the Central American team.
Costa Rica took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when Ronald Gomez's low, left-footed free kick from 19 yards out got past the defensive wall and goalkeeper Artur Boruc. Gomez then gave the Ticos a chance to go up 2-0 when he skipped clear of two defenders to feed an unmarked Paulo Wanchope at the edge of the penalty area. But Boruc easily smothered Wanchope's weak right-footed shot.
Costa Rica seem to have a positive approach in the early part of the second half. Mauricio Solis took a long strike from Walter Centeno into the box. But his flick shot was easily snagged by Boruc.
