The IVA (Individual Voluntary Agreement) is an agreement between the debtor and the creditor that aims to help the debtor solve his debt problems. It is a legal contract between them. IVA came to existence in 1986 under the Insolvency Act. IVA is a better alternative to bankruptcy, and it helps in avoiding bankruptcy by reducing the loan amount that the debtor has to pay back. An insolvency practitioner is assigned to the debtor to guide him and choose the best plan for him.

Features:

It is an agreement between the debtor and the creditor so as to help him out with his debts. The IVA helps the person by reducing the loan amount that the person has to pay back. The loan amount can be reduced by around 75%.The person has to make monthly payments for a certain period of time that has been fixed by the creditor and the insolvency practitioner on the behalf of that person. There are various different plans which are offered by the creditor and the insolvency practitioner chooses the best plan on that person's behalf. The job and property safety is ensured in this case.

Advantages:
The conditions of the agreement can be set by the person according to his comfort level. The insolvency practitioner helps in deciding what is best for the debtor and then chooses the plan accordingly .The loan amount can be written off up to an extent of 75% and the person can clear off his debt by making monthly payments that have been pre-decided by them. There is no extra rate of interest; also there are no hidden charges that the person has to face later on. The borrower is protected from any court action and his job is secure too. The borrower does not have to face any public embarrassment as this agreement is private.
