Pat yourself on the back – you did your research for Villa Rental Puerto Vallarta and you’re finally set to spend a week in a luxury villa in the resort city on Mexico’s Pacific coast. You’re not done yet, though. Now you need to think about how you’re going to spend your days (and nights) when you get there. Among the local attractions are a slew of top-notch golf courses, and many folks who travel to Puerto Vallarta insist that it is a great place to play a round or two.
You will not have any trouble finding a course that fits your skill level, suits your style and satisfies your craving for local color. No matter where you play, you can expect friendly service and plenty of fun. Given the tropical climate, it’s important that you include bug spray and sun block in your gear, no matter where you play. So, where to start?
Golfers, Start Your Carts!
Golfers rave about Vista Vallarta Jack Nicklaus, but they caution first-time visitors to hire a caddy. One hole actually requires that you tee off over the forest canopy. The course is built in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountains and the scenery is stunning. The golf is even better, and if you get twilight pricing, it’s pretty affordable.
“El Tigre” golf course at Paradise Village may be among the toughest courses in Mexico, depending on who you’re talking to. Over 7,200 yards long, the championship course features plenty of water hazards and a few challenging beach bunkers. Greens fees include a golf cart, but you probably ought to be ready to call your own shots because you may not have access to caddy services. And wear your soft spikes.
Several holes on Four Seasons Punta Mita Golf Course have spectacular ocean views, and that exhilarating feeling you get when you emerge from the trees to the ocean-front must be experienced to be believed. The unique “Tail of the Whale,” sits on a rock in the bay; its tee box is on the beach and the green is shaped like a whale’s tail. If you’re a friend of the environment, you’ll be glad to learn that this course manages water wisely and stays away from harmful chemicals.
Home Again
Some courses offer special “round 2" pricing for golfers who have so much fun on the first 18 that they feel compelled to play another 18. No matter how many holes you finish, you’ll be glad to get back home to your villa Puerto Vallarta, kick off your shoes and rest your tired self on your private patio. Icy beverage in hand, you can enjoy the sunset over Banderas Bay as you share the woes and wonder of your golf experience with friends and family.
