Along with the ever expanding popularity of todays much more modern above ground pools, comes companies and distributors telling people that they can actually install one themselves. Sure this may be true if a person is buying a smaller, simple round model but what about a larger model with more pieces. Also, what about all the ground work that might have to be done?

You Can Do It

The facts as they stand on do it yourself above ground pools and dirt work are that you will need at least one pair of helping hands to start with. Also, you will need a basic set of tools, including screw drivers, a hammer, pliers, a crescent wrench or two, of course a tape measure and a good sharp razor knife. Also, the space in your yard that your pool is going to be installed must be level and if it is going to have a deep end, it must be dug first.

Prepare Well In Advance

If you are going to be having any leveling or digging work done in your backyard then there are few things to consider. Prepare a day or so ahead of time the route by which the tractor or bobcat is going to get into your backyard. Don't wait for the guy with the equipment to arrive before you begin to disassemble an area of fencing, while he waits and bills you $50-$75 per hour. Also, buy a box of trash bags to place any plants that have to be dug up in, so you can replant them when the tractor guy is done.

Check What is Below the Surface at the County Planning Office

Plan way ahead of time with regards to the tractor or bobcat work and you may be able to get a better deal. Often times, if you allow a tractor guy to schedule you in at his leisure you can ask for a discount. This way he can swing by when his schedule is open and quickly do your small job. Also, consider renting a backhoe or tractor from a rental yard and doing the digging yourself. Lastly, never ever dig in your yard with heavy equipment before checking your plot map a the county office to see if there are any utility pipes or cables running through your yard
