By now, if you have read up on the subject online, you probably know that installing your own above ground pool is very do-able, as long as you have an extra pair of helping hands. So, you have all the necessary hand tools, the pool is on its way and you are ready to go. However; is there anything else that you may want to consider?

Check Your Plot Map at the County Planning Department

First of all, if you are going to be doing any digging with heavy equipment in your backyard you “must” head down to the county planning office, pull up your plot map and check for underground utilities. Even if all of your main utilities are run down the middle of the street and are accounted for, there still may be a surprise waiting for you just below the surface. Perhaps one of your neighbors ran a sewer line across your yard when the previous owner lived there.

Consider Renting Equipment and Digging Yourself

Also, get any required permits before your begin. A permit to dig with heavy equipment is cheap and if you get snagged for not getting one, the holdups and fine will be a headache that won't soon go away. Call around to your local rental yards and check the prices on renting your own backhoe or bobcat. Believe it or not, if you can drive a stick shift car, you can operate one of these contraptions and it will save you hundreds of dollars by doing it yourself.

Entice Others to Help You

If you want to attract helping hands, an ice chest full of cold beer and a smoky grill full of hot dogs and burgers works way better then cash. This particularly holds true with the 21-26 age group. Remember though, that the number one golden rule is work first then party later, because doing it the other way around always leads to productivity problems. Have fun and make sure that you have enough shovels for everyone
