Credit card debt relief is not impossible, although it does take some amount of hard work and bullheadedness to achieve. Given below are some ways in which you can speed up the path to credit card debt relief.
Step #1 LESS IS MORE
Make spending to a minimum a habit. The less expenses you incur the more savings you get. Keep spending to a minimum and buy only what you need. Keep away from sales and other promos that can make you spend more than what you need. Lastly, when you use your credit card, keep in mind that if you can’t pay for it today (with cash) the reality is that you can’t afford it. Spending less will help you ease the burden of debt and will get you credit card relief.
Step #2 MAKE A CHOICE
If you have a multitude of credit cards at your disposal, try scheduling when you use each of them. Start with those that have the highest annual interest rates. These cards are only to be used for emergencies. Your other cards, those with a smaller annual interest rate, will be used for your other expenses. Also, try paying in cash. That way you get a much more realistic view of your financial status. Do anything; just avoid using your plastics.
Step # 3 FACE THE MUSIC
Here’s what you should do: gather all your outstanding bills from all your credit cards. Sum up the minimum monthly payment for each bill and get your total minimum monthly payment. Once you have computed it add a percentage of your total monthly payment to it and RELIGIOUSLY PAY YOUR DEBT OFF EACH MONTH.
Remember, this percentage should be large enough to affect the total debt of at least one account. If you can’t afford to do that, it means you should either change your spending practices or try to increase your income because you are spending more than what you actually earn. Ouch! I know, the truth hurts.
Step #4 GET SOME HELP!
This may sound crazy, but credit card companies are only too happy to let you pay your debt at a slower rate. That is how they make money. But with more companies waking up to the fact that people just do not have enough money to pay off their debts, they are also happy to renegotiate your terms so you can pay them a good percentage of your loan than reneging on your loan. With this in mind, a sure way to get some credit card relief is by asking your credit card provider for a lower interest. Renegotiate.
Call your collections department and ask them to take down the interest a few notches. Tell them, nicely of course, that in your current financial situation it’s impossible for you to pay your bills. Tell them that because you are a very loyal customer, you would rather ask for a lower rate than not pay anything at all. You call also tell them that there are other companies offering you much lower rates but you would still stay with them because of customer loyalty.
