You know a dating relationship has its share of ups and downs but last time the two of you went out was really embarrassing.
You had to do a lot of cajoling yet at the same time you stood firm. You were sick and tired of going out for a bite to eat with your dating partner only to wind up at the nearest hot dog stand. You wouldn't mind but most of the time you wound up paying.
This time enough is enough. The two of you are going out to a real restaurant and that's that. Needless to say your dating partner was less than thrilled. Reluctantly they agreed so out you went. The place was really nice but you could not help but notice your date's uneasiness. They ordered as little as possible. In the meantime you, having freed yourself from that hot dog diet, order the works. Your date is stunned at how you could be so careless with money and lets you know it. Wow do they let you know it. Before, during and after the meal, particularly afterwards when the bill arrives. Amazingly you did not let all this money talk spoil your appetite but now you are on the verge of major indigestion.
Not only does your date pull out their omnipresent calculator and figure out to the penny who owes what but they took the added step of calling over the waitress and the manager to dispute the charges. You tell them to cool it. In fact you will spring for the whole thing if it makes them happy. It does but that's not the point it's the principal.
Whether you have too much or too little, the talk about money is bound to be a part of any relationship. But dealing with a tightwad on a consistent basis can make it rougher than it has to be. You are not irresponsible. You know the value of a dollar and on more than a few occasions had to pinch pennies yourself. Cheapskates in far too many instances take it to extremes.
Therefore if you decide that in spite of their stinginess you enjoy this relationship then you may want to learn how to navigate in that world.
For instance you could become a first class bargain hunter. Yes you should be doing this anyway especially in these tough economic times but showing your date thru action that you are willing to do this is going to make them very happy. Check the newspaper circulars, clip coupons or contact various establishments and find out whether they are running a special or if they offer vouchers.
Also surprise your date by letting them know from time to time it's more economical to stay home and enjoy a home cooked meal than go out.
Your dating partner has strong feelings for you but they are who they are. If you feel the same way towards them save them money whenever you can and let them know about it. Saving money or not having to spend a dime is music to their ears. That should give you bargaining power in other areas of your dating relationship.
