You’re getting ready to face the board with your annual budget assessment and projections in hand. Convincing those individuals to allot enough funds to prepare your company for its future on the web may be a daunting task. Assisting the board in understanding where the online world is headed and how vital it is to stay ahead of the competition is key.

In your role as CTO, it’s critical that you bridge the gap of understanding between the technical jargon and the daily business transactions in your company. Having a clear understanding of where technology is headed is a must. As the technical world dives deeper into the online ocean, a CTO must have a clear vision of how the company is going to stay afloat and thrive in a very large pond.

Everyone’s goal in a company is basically the same; to make money. A CTO must know the technologies that will lead their company to success. More and more, CTO’s are working closer with the CEO to ensure there company is headed in the correct direction.

Website optimization has been put on the top of the list when it comes to the CTO’s duties. Ensuring the correct technology is in place and the correct resources are allocated to doing so is crucial. The prediction that the online market will not slow down, but instead gain speed is something to pay attention to. The CTO should see to it that their company is capable of handling that task today and in the upcoming future.

At the end of the day, a CTO doesn’t want to have to be burdened with reactive problems – like the new site he just got the board’s approval on going down. Technology should be put into place beforehand to ensure those problems never arise. Whether it’s applying the correct applications or having the correct website monitoring, proactive solutions can be administered to make certain the business is technically sound.
