The recent scandal that rocked the Indian BPO industry was a premeditated attempt by some western lobbies with vested interests to malign India’s reputation in view of the country’s growth and tremendous potential in the international business arena. The main targets of these undercover western assemblages are India’s IT sector, BPO or any outsourcing company which are posing a threat to the employment sectors in their respective countries.

A security breach can happen anywhere in the world and sometimes criminals can infiltrate and gather confidential information. This can happen in any industry irrespective of geographic location. Misdemeanors are a universal phenomenon and its perpetuation is not confined to India alone. Without going through the details of the case, the western media starting naming it as an blot on the BPO business and started even warning companies to reconsider their decision of transferring BPO works to India.

In the past few years, we have seen the Western countries talk about globalization and vanishing borders. But ironically when the same benefits that the West had been enjoying due to open trade started trickling to the developing nations, they conveniently forgot the spirit of healthy competition.

In view of such intimidations from the west, the Indian media should be conscientious of their responsibility by fiercely protecting and restoring our national image. Both public and private media have failed our nation in creating well-informed and enlightened the citizens.

Members of the press have a pivotal role in this colossal, enlivening and eventually worthwhile undertaking. The anticipation and excitement with which we wait for the morning newspapers and the pleasure with which we tune in our favourite channel are testimony to this great potential of the media in our society. There is every reason to hope, and believe that our media will play an even more glorious role in fulfilling our potential as a nation, and promoting the concept of Shining India, both nationwide and internationally.
