Even as incidences of servant killing their masters spurt in Delhi, there are people who are vying for a home with servant accommodation. Basically, it's the working couple who are having a tough time in taking care of their kids in the absence of elder ones in the family. Further the rarity of space to accommodate maids who can live with the owners 24×7 is adding on to the trouble.

With the concept of joint families becoming a thing of past, the real estate in Delhi has also shifted preferences to meeting the needs of nuclear families at large, providing 2 and 3 BHK apartment flats minus the space for help.

Though still there are options in Delhi property market where families of servants also stay in, but overall the trend is now fading. Localities like GK, Panchsheel Park, Vasant Vihar, Model town, Civil Lines and government colonies of Pandara Park, Moti Nagar have proper accommodation for servants. Luxury apartments in DLF have good, comfortable rooms for servants but currently the number of such apartments can be counted on fingers.

One of the reason cited behind the disappearing trend is the fact that concept of apartments and builder floors are gaining dominance. Delhi real estate builders have either stopped making servant rooms or give very small space for the purpose. Even if there are options available for servant rooms they don't fit in to the budget of many.

The other reason being that lat few years have seen large number of houses demolished and Delhi Real Estate Developers going on a spree constructing apartment flats and builder floors. These contemporary accommodations hardly provide for any space for domestic helps.

Nonetheless, amid escalating property prices in Delhi where buying an apartment for oneself is a task in itself getting space for the servants is affordable by the rich only, given the availability of the same.
