There are so many different types of brands out there today and this is very true when it comes to clothing brands. This is probably down to the number of new clothing styles that have developed recently. Extreme sports and music has influenced the clothing industry which has resulted in new clothing brand styles.
Here are my favourite 4 clothing brand styles:
Skate Wear
A number of clothing brands started in the skateboarder community and they are known as skatewear. Skatewear has always had close links with surfwear clothing because they both came out of the same scene, as skateboarders and surfers are often one and the same. This is because skateboards were made by surfers to perfect their balance by surfing on land. Both the clothing styles are fairly similar but each individually caters for the needs of surfers or skaters. Some of the biggest skate wear brands include World Industries and Vans shoes.
Surfwear
Surfwear is a phrase that was created to categorise the clothing worn by surfers. Originally it all began with surfers from the So Cal surf community who began creating their own clothing brands. This is likely to be down to the rise in popularity of surfing and its recognition as a sport which meant surfers could get endorsement contracts with surf sportswear clothing. Some of the most famous surf wear brands include Volcom, Quiksilver and Billabong.
Urbanwear
Rap and hip hop music have influenced many clothes stylists and their clothing is known as urbanwear. At the end of the seventies and beginning of the eighties rap and hip hop started to emerge with bands like Run DMC and the Beastie Boys breaking into the charts. Many artists were famous for wearing baggy clothes, gold chains and Adidas trainers with the laces out. When hip hop became more popular so did the clothing as artists like Jay Z and Puff Daddy launching their own clothing brands. The hip hop scene that includes things like rap, graffiti and breakdancing inspired many clothing stylists. This resulted in many urban wear brands like Roca Wear, Phat Farm and Sean John.
Streetwear
The one clothing style that has been influenced by all the others is street wear. Streetwear can be described as clothing that is influenced by urban living in metropolitan towns and cities. Extreme sports like bmx, music like hip hop and street art by graffiti artists have all inspired some of the most innovative clothing styles. Graphics and street art are main features of street wear clothing along with practical clothing designs. The Addict Clothing Co, Stussy and Obey Giant are good examples of innovative street wear brands.
