A new state forestry opens in Washoe valley. It provides a variety of trees and shrubs for conservation. Its main purpose is to provide conservation to local trees and shrubs to enhance the environment.

More: Here, the plants have been short listed to include planting to reduce soil erosion, reforestation, and rehabilitation, create windbreaks, and improve wildlife habitat, post-fire rehabilitation, and re-vegetation to enhance or restore riparian areas or wetlands. This nursery also makes contract and grow variety of plants through out the state with the intention of conservation.

There is no intention of providing landscape material. Landowners of one acre land or more may purchase these plants. Majority of the plants are at the cost of $2-$2.50 per piece and minimum of five plants should be purchased. In the season, a limited number of plants may be purchased.

More details: some of the species available in the month of May are sugar maple, Russian olive, native Jeffery, honey locust, lacebark elm, Baker cypress, Australian pine, ponderosa pines and green ash.

Variety of shrubs include pea shrub, red twig dogwood, rugosa, oak leaf sumac, common lilac, cotoneaster, wild roses and rabbitbrush.

Plants are available through out the summers. New varieties are added at the time of replanting. In late summers, some of the varieties such as bur oak, chokecherry, incense cedar, blue spruce, giant sequoias, native plum, Indian rice grass and golden currant.

Located at 885 Eastlake Boulevard, this nursery is approximately one mile off the U.S. 395 exit. Timing for sale is 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
