Remember the days, when your dial-up, modem was painfully slow and made those shrieking sounds, each time you tried connecting to the internet, well those days are over. Today, the internet is not merely, a convenience, it has become virtually a part of our culture and an indispensable tool in our personal and business life. With the hunger for, and abundance of, information, movies, videos and music and all the multimedia that can be accessed on the internet, the need for speed has never been greater. Over the past few years, the broadband internet market in the UK has grown significantly with numerous users opting for broadband connections and, in the process giving up their soon-to-be defunct, dial-up connections.
Statistics, for the broadband internet market in the UK, reveal that a majority of internet users have this amazingly fast internet connection. However, the UK has had a much slower transition from dial-up to broadband connection when compared to their counterparts in most Western European countries. Moreover, UK broadband internet providers are unable to offer the broadband speeds that are available in other countries. Despite initial promise and hype that higher speeds would be made available at the time broadband was introduced, providers are facing difficulty to offer high speed broadband to users in remote areas versus those in more populated and accessible cities and towns in the UK.
In order to counterbalance their inability to offer faster broadband speed to users in some areas, broadband internet providers in the UK have resorted to offering special discounts and other little extras to woo internet user targets in this segment. Following the offer of such incentives, the broadband internet market in the UK has become extremely competitive with a significant number of people in remote as well as populated areas signing up for broadband connections. The next problem, that UK internet providers are currently in the process of addressing, is how to provide top broadband speeds to as wide a spectrum of internet users as possible. The objectives for the next few years is to extend coverage and broadband speed to all areas of the UK, as the country still ranks among the lowest in providing broadband speed when compared to several other advanced and developing countries around the world.
The technology for swift access to the internet has grown in leaps and bounds over the past few years. This was inevitable in view of the problems faced by users of the traditional dial-up systems. With the advent of ADSL, (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) technology, high speed internet access is now available to several homes. ADSL uses standard copper telephone lines and is a primary competitor to the cable modem providers who offer high speed internet access via cable TV lines. The advantage of ADSL over cable modems is that it is far less expensive and enjoys a wider range of availability. Internet users, who consider practicality as a priority, are availing this high speed technology which offers internet access to places that cable TV does not.
If you have a dial-up connection and wish to invest in a broadband system, or, if you already have a broadband connection but aren’t too happy with the services of your Provider, you may switch broadband provider and obtain a connection from the many, reputed broadband providers that are available in the UK internet market today. If you are in need for speed, perhaps you are, a broadband connection is certainly for you.
