Everyone try to make their songs great by recording one song at a time in a recording studio. However, the result may not be as good as expected because the collection of songs in a CD has different EQs and hence each song may peak at a different level. A mastering engineer can solve this problem by unifying the CD and thus creating consistent sound tracks. CD mastering enhances the quality of the songs by eliminating the background noises which you may not have noticed earlier and by altering the space between the audio tracks.

CD recording is a simple process which can be done by anyone with little knowledge. On the other hand, mastering is a vital step which edits and polishes the audio tracks and hence it has to be carried out by a professional. As CD mastering involves different techniques, accurate mastering can turn the CD into a legend. Before sending CDs for replication, the CDs undergo three steps of mastering namely editing, sweetening and quality checking.

During editing, the tunes are arranged in sequence and appropriate spacing is made between the tracks. Strange noises and other disturbances are often fixed during this stage. In the next stage, equipments are used to sweeten the tracks by enhancing smoothness, clarity and impact of the music. Finally, after checking the quality of the CD, the CD recording is completed by transferring the music to the required media from which mass production can be done. Even a casual listener can appreciate the quality of the sound when he listens the recording before and after mastering. So, we can say CD mastering is truly the final creative step involved in the making of a CD.
