Chronic pelvic pain is a steady pain that comes with a woman's menstrual cycle. Pelvic pain and pelvic masses are common symptoms experienced by women and it may be occur due to several causes. You can described both as acute or chronic, cyclic or non cyclic, localized of generalized, or a combination.

Many women have pain in their pelvic region at some point in their lives. Finding the cause of pelvic pain can be a long process. Often there is more than one reason for the pain and its exact source can be hard to detect. Women who have pelvic pain should consult a doctor, especially if the pain disrupts daily life or gets worse over time.

Causes

Pelvic pain often is caused by a variety of factors. It can be acute or chronic, depending on the cause. Acute (sharp) pain starts over a short time (a few minutes to a few days). Chronic pain can either come and go or be constant. Pelvic pain can result where scar tissue (adhesion) forms. In evaluating the cause of pelvic pain, your doctor may ask you questions about the pain and its effect on your daily life.

Many people experience pelvic pain from yeast infection. This is just one of the symptoms of a yeast infection, as well as one of the negative aspects of a yeast infection. Pelvic pain from a yeast infection, as well as hand, knee, and other joint pain. Often times pelvic pain from yeast infection needs more than just some pain killers to deal with. The only real way to end the pelvic pain from yeast infection is to cure the yeast infection. Over the counter medication can help end the yeast infection, however, the infection will return at some point if that is the only thing you use.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) - This is usually divided into acute and chronic types but the cause (infection) is the same. Such infections are usually (but not always) sexually transmitted, with Chlamydia being the most common. Acute PID causes severe pelvic pain with fever and even if this is treated promptly with the correct antibiotics, the scarring and tissue damage may persist - as Chronic PID. Some women get chronic PID without ever having had an episode of acute PID.

Pain in the pelvic cavity and the perineum (the skin and muscles between the vagina and rectum in women and the scrotum and rectum in men) is one of the most common causes of pain in women. It is also one of the most difficult to diagnose and manage.Researchers estimate that 12% to 20% of women have chronic pelvic pain, and up to 33% of women will have pelvic pain during their lifetime. Unfortunately, 61% of women with chronic pelvic pain remain undiagnosed.

Surgical options include:

Surgery to take out scar tissue that may be causing pain. This is called adhesiolysis. Hysterectomy may be an option for women whose pelvic veins are persistently swollen or when all other measures have been tried without success. However, it does not always relieve the pain. Cutting certain nerves in the lower back to help relieve pain.
