Anyone who drives an automobile can benefit from gas credit cards that offer rebates, rewards and cash back. Gas credit cards can be used virtually anywhere, and not only for motor fuel purchases.
Of course, all four major credit card companies are competing for your business, and often a single company offers two or more kinds of gas credit cards. Therefore, it’s a good idea to do some comparison shopping in order to determine just which gas credit cards are best for your particular needs and spending patterns. Some gas credit cards offer rebates not only on fuel, but on a wide range of travel-related expenses. Others may allow you to apply rewards to automotive maintenance and repairs. Introductory terms and interest rates can also vary significantly, so do your due diligence before signing up for any gas credit cards.
Chase PerfectCardMasterCard
In addition to an introductory 0% interest rate for the first six months, cardholders enjoy a 6% rebate on fuel purchases for the initial three months and 3% thereafter as well as a 1% rebate on all other purchases. There is no annual fee for this gas credit card.
Chase BP VISA Rewards Card
This gas credit card is a bit more limited; however, if you buy fuel primarily from BP, it is quite useful. In addition to 0% on balance transfers and purchases for the first six months, this card offers an ongoing 5% rebate on purchases made at all participating BP stations as well as 2% back on selected travel and restaurant purchases. Rebates are unlimited and are doubled during the first two months.
Chase Flexible Rewards Platinum VISA Card
The Flexible Rewards card has no annual fee and allows the cardholder to earn one point for every dollar spent. These points are good for discounts on air travel, hotels and rental cars. This is among the gas credit cards that offer a 0% interest rate for the six months.
Discover® Open Road Card
In addition to a 0% introductory rate on purchases and balance transfers for up to 12 months, cardholders can earn 5% cash back on fuel and auto maintenance as well as up to 20% cash back on other everyday purchases. Discover maintains corporate partnerships with 100 merchants who offer increased-value gift cards that can as much as double the value of rewards. At under 11%, this is definitely one of the lowest gas credit cards.
