One thing is certain if you are planning on having a pool installed at your home or place of business and that is that you will be needing quite a few accessories to go with it. This means that you will be comparing pool cleaners to decide which one you are going to chose and one thing that you will find is that there are now many different types and styles to choose from. What about a cheapo pool cleaner? You can buy one for just under $100. Will that work in place of an expensive model? Also, why are there so many drastically different types if they all do the same thing, which is clean the water in the pool?

Three Types to Choose From

In short, there are three basic types of pool cleaners. Mechanical pool cleaners are powered by electricity, while suction and pressure side pool cleaners are powered by a hose connected to your pool pump. Pressure side pool cleaners tend to be more complex then suction side models with moving parts and the ability to move around the bottom of your pool.

Suction Side Pool Cleaners

Suction side pool cleaners are those very inexpensive models that will see advertised that have no moving parts. They will work sufficiently in a smaller pool, but really aren't adequate for a larger pool. If you have a smaller above ground pool that doesn't get a lot of debris blown into it, you can easily get away with one of these types of pool cleaners.

Mechanical Pool Cleaners

The most expensive and feature laden pool cleaners are the mechanical models and they come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. If you have, or are going to have a built in cement lined pool then the cement sides of the pool are going to have to be scrubbed from time to time. Mechanical, electrical pool cleaners are the only types that feature rotating scrub brushes that will scrub the pool as they move around it. Also, if your pool is going to be used in any type of commercial setting you will definitely need one or more commercial grade mechanical pool cleaners.
