There are many different company sizes in the moving business. Some may have a large fleet or just a single truck. Many people tend to notice the larger companies as they see the vans on the road. People tend to feel safer with a moving company that has been around the block, so to speak. The way you perceive the company as a successful one makes you more comfortable with their ability to meet your relocation needs.

However, a larger moving company does not necessarily mean it will be better. A company with a only a few trucks may actually suit you better if you are the type of person who appreciates a personal touch. Speaking to the actual owner of the company may make you feel more relaxed.

The amount of trucks a moving company has in it’s fleet can have an impact on its maintenance schedule. If it’s a small company with only a few trucks, the trucks may have to all be in service every day to keep up with the workload. There is not much time for routine maintenance, and certainly no time for unscheduled repairs. When just a single van in a small company breaks down, it could cripple the entire moving schedule and interrupt your plans.

In a large moving company there are always spare vans that are rotated out for routine maintenance. If there is a van breakdown, a larger company can just send another vehicle to replace it. The small moving company schedule is almost always very tight and has limited availability. There are only so many trucks to keep the company profitable. Occasionally, you may have to postpone your move date because the small moving company cannot fit you on your preferred date.

In larger moving companies, there is more flexibility in the schedule which means that it is easier to move on the date you want to move. That also means, however, that the van may not be prompt. Unfortunately, there is no direct answer to whether a company with a large fleet is better than one with a small fleet because there are other practical factors that set them apart.
