Anxiety and depression are the two traits of human mind, which crop up as a result of our action to different situations. Having anxiety or depression is common to all and they have their own role to play in our lives; normally they instigate a human being to take corrective actions to straighten the situation. For e.g. Lets say you have a problem because of which you get depressed or worried, isn’t it a normal situation we all undergo? And getting worried about it only means that you are concerned about it. Now because you are worried you will take necessary actions to solve the problem. Tell me; had there been no worry would you have made an effort to solve it?
But the big question is if having anxiety or depression is normal then why is it called a disorder? Anxiety turns into a disorder when you just worry and do nothing to solve the problem or when you are unable to gather the required courage or enthusiasm to take an appropriate action. Anxiety and worry becomes overwhelming and effects the normal functioning of life. In this situation you need to find out the reason behind your mental condition and seek help from family or friends or even professional counselor.
A few tips for self-analysis and self-help are given below for you, if you think you are suffering excessively from worry and depression.
• Exercise and Walk! At least for 20 minutes everyday! This is the most effective way of controlling high cholesterol, lower hypertension, reduce anxiety, lighten depression, and stop panic attacks dead in their track!
• Maintain a journal everyday and write down your reasons of depression, worries and fears.
• Analyze your fears, are they real threats? How much is under your control? Are you taking too much pain for something which is not that big as you are deeming it to be?
• Are you sleeping properly? Sleep well and take effective measures if you are not able to sleep properly.
• Talk to a trusted friend about your worries and fears. He will be able to help you in finding out the exact problem.
• The best way to combat anxiety and worry is to face the threat. You have already evaluated the seriousness of the issue. Now make an action plan and work on it.
The realization that you are not behaving normally in normal or tough situation is the first step towards your wellbeing. Now, its time to seek help from your family or friends, they may help you understand the severity of your mental condition and find you a good psychological counselor for your treatment if required. Speak out your mind. This is the only way to get help from people around you, who care about you. Remember, this situation of turbulence is not permanent. A happy and peaceful life is waiting for you; you just need to walk up to there.
