Unfortunately, when we come home, unless we are already attentive to the matter, we can be walking into an environment that is two to one hundred times more polluted than the outdoors. Without going into great detail about the different types of toxins, what are some things that you can actually do about this? Finding theses things out and then putting them into place can improve a women’s health and the health of her family.

Actually, a two-pronged strategy is your wisest path. The strategy should consist of both minimizing indoor toxic exposure and optimizing the immunity aspect of your physical health.

To minimize toxins inside of your home, take the following actions:

• Leave your shoes at the door to avoid tracking lead in from the street, and thus lower lead exposure. If you don’t do this, at least get good doormats that are effective in pulling the toxins off the bottoms of shoes with rubbing.

• Clean with baking soda, vinegar and water instead of store-bought cleansers that are full of harsh chemicals.

• Keep your house as clean as possible. Make sure that you are truly picking up the dirt and getting it out of your house, instead of just pushing it around. There are specialized cleaning materials available that clean deeply, and do for sure pick up the dirt. It is worth taking some time to find out about them.

• Regularly change heater filters, to avoid recycling toxins throughout the air in your home repeatedly.

• Clean air ducts regularly, they can also harbor toxins.

• Invest in a good air cleaner.

• Use natural personal care items. Hair products, fragrant lotions, etc. can be big offenders.

• Make sure that your water is clean. If you need to, invest in a good filter, or have your water delivered to you by a trusted source.

To fulfill the second half of your strategy, optimize your physical health. Immunity, according to Wikipedia, is defined as "a state of having sufficient biological defenses to avoid infection, diseases or other unwanted biological invasion, and is related to the functions of the immune system". Keep your immunity strong so that you are protected from the ‘unwanted biological invasion’ of any toxins there may be in your home.

To help your immune system get adequate rest, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, exercise in the fresh air, and take supplements if you need to. Vitamin E and Vitamin C are crucial. If you’re not getting enough in your diet through foods, take supplements. You can also increase the amount of garlic, green tea and red wine (which contains resveratrol, a phytonutrient) in your diet. All three are sources of helpful, immune-boosting phytonutrients. This doesn’t mean you need to overdo it on the red wine. A glass with dinner is just fine. More than that obviously can have ‘toxic’ effects due to the alcohol content. If you do not want to drink red wine, the helpful phytonutrient – resveratrol – is available in supplement form. If you need to get more garlic into your diet, consider taking a garlic oil supplement. Together with the actions mentioned earlier, these physical-health-boosting actions can help protect women’s health from potentially dangerous, damaging toxins in the home.
