Halloween being the oldest holiday that is being celebrated .it is the only festival that is being celebrated earlier than Christmas. It is believed to have been started in what is now known as Ireland. Ancient people known as Celts observed Samhain at the end of the season, thus accounting to the biggest day of celebration in the entire year. Samhain signified the harvest of crops and it also required the preparations that were required for the survival of winter. The Celts believed that October 31st was not only the end of summer but it was also the beginning of something darker and scarier. It was also believed that the people who had expired the last year would come and walk on the earth .They believed that no person was safe unless some precautions were taken. They believed that these dead would take their bodies. So villages gathered around large bonfires and offered honor to the dead and also offered gifts of fruits, vegetables and animals to pagan gods. To make sure that none of them would recognize them they dressed up in the hides of the skins.
