Much as we cannot live without our computers, these indispensable machines do have a reputation for occasionally inducing headaches. Sometimes they seem to just freeze up while at other times they arbitrarily decide to re-boot themselves so that you lose work. Sometimes they refuse to match the speed of your keystrokes or mouse-clicks and at other times they deny you the ability to do something that you assumed was quite possible given the marvellous technology before you. Still, where would we be without them?
Online Software Updates
Granted, their bad reputation is sometimes deserved. But sometimes, problematic software comes up with a solution without even being asked. It takes computer repair and computer support to a new level. You can set up some of your software to automatically check for free updates or upgrades or computer repairs and patches whenever you go online. These updates will often make improvements to the software and provide patches that fix program glitches and bugs. It should be worth noting that during the installation of computer software, you will often be prompted to decide whether you want the software to automatically check for downloadable updates whenever you go online. Some software can also be set up to check for updates on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. You should give serious consideration to permitting this feature, because if you encounter problems, an automatic update may provide the computer repair without having to take further action. After program installation, you can usually re-adjust the update features and prime your software to check for update downloads on a regular basis.
Updates usually improve software incrementally. The chances are that any given software update won’t be the computer repair that you need. But there’s a chance that it might. If there is a fix to a problem common to all the versions of a given application, you may be prompted by the software to download an upgrade because of the very problem you have. The added incentive is the fact that the upgrade will sort out the other glitches and bugs in the previous version.
Before you start downloading, your computer may advise you that an update is being sought by the program or you may be prompted by the software to allow it to go ahead. Once an update is found and downloaded, you may also be told that it is ready for installation, and prompted to allow the installation. Sometimes, however, all of these processes go on in the background and you won’t even notice them. Updates can provide solutions to problems you didn’t even know you had and furthermore, you never will know about.
Limitations To Software Updates
There are obvious limitations and disadvantages to online software updates. You may need to reboot your computer before all updates or the computer repair can take effect. Or a badly designed update or patch may actually do more harm than good, or create new problems that you could have done without. You may be prompted for unnecessary updates that you don’t want. After all, you won’t need to enable Japanese script on the application until your old buddy Ayaka Yamanaka from Osaka comes to stay for a couple of weeks in November!
